Walking among the dead......

As the Chinese tradition the "Cheng meng" it a ceremony in which the sons and grandsons and latter generations of the family come to pay respects to the ancestors,as the Oldest son of my family It was required that I join in,the ceremony was a simple one, first we lit fire crackers to "awaken the spirits" ( what a way to ring the doorbell)then we set the food out and offer it to them (absolutely weird but important to the Chinese) I think Its a pretty good thing like your dead but people still honor you and visit you,(in your grave) its like your gone but not forgotten, well then after that we lit candles and incense we waited for the candles to burn out while the spirits "ate"the food (mighty good food at that!)I couldn't help but feel death in the air, like the spirits were still in the graves and needed to be set free,I felt depressed some what, and my problems that seamed to small and useless all of a sudden felt like huge boulders on my shoulders,my spirit was sensitive enough to feel the emotion and bondage of the dead people in the cemetery, but I had God (and He's a very jealous God),on my side and there's only room enough for one spirit so I knew that the feeling is the spirit couldn't harm me, after the candles burnt out we went to take the food back and and say good bye to my ancestors by of course lighting more firecrackers, then we set off for home,as I left the cemetery I felt the heaviness on my heart lift ,the spirits there were thick there and dark and I prayed for the freedom of all the spirits still with in the graves on the way out, traveling I felt a lot better not being to depressed by spirits and all,I arrived at a friends place to stay the night,I was going to a ctp with the home, the evening was amusing I played some basket ball with an other SGA, and got 3,three pointers in a row (quite satisfying)then I chatted with Albert and Stephanie about normal teen stuff, and music of course, the night was very hot,I didn't get a wink of sleep till 4 in the morning when I was awoken at 6:40 am (not by fire cracks at least)Me and Albert ate a quick break fast and set out the the ctp with 2 other adults it was about 3 hours away so i got a bit more extra sleeping hours, when we finally got to the school we quickly started the games and sing, after 2 hours of playing with kids,we took photos with all the sponsored stuff, while the paper work was being dealt with I played some ping pong with the kids, they were very poor so they didn't have real padddles to lay with so we used pieces of wood instead, the game was fun and after a short while it was time to go,we stopped at a contact to eat lunch the lady owner was a sweet plump lady, who offered us traditional Thai hospitality, we stayed and talk to her for an hour, before going to a cemetary (another one)to do some business about the grave stone,we had little trouble finding the tomb and seeing that the grave stone was complete, the photo of the dead Family member was as real as life, you could tell by the spirit the photo had of her,it was not all depressing and dark like the Chinese grave yard, but here it was peaceful, quiet and just a calm atmosphere, all this was enjoyable to see the many Christian that died and wonder about who they were, what they might have done for the Lord, what their life story was,as I walked alone through the rows of tombs I read the names and some info about the people,I didn't feel scared even though there was no wind and it was very still and quiet,no fear came to me.I like the feeling of stillness calm and serene,, the contrast of the people in this graveyard and the Chinese one,it had a different atmosphere to it,the spirit does linger and the goodness of what the person did on earth still remains,a good spirit hands over the area,I could feel it when I walked around each tomb, one day I'll meet these people.....as for now I'll make sure what I do on earth remains and when people walk by my grave they too will feel what I felt.......peace..

that's pretty cool! its awesome to hear about Thai culture, even in a far-off land like me :D it reminds me a bit of what Mexicans do for Halloween, the cal it the "dead's day" they go and spend a whole day and a whole night at the cemetery bringing food and flowers.... cemeteries go wild on those days...
and they put up an altar inside their houses with pictures of their dead and their favorite foods... its kinda different, but all vaery interesting :D.
