Help !!!! Advice!!!

Yes I'm totally freaked, OK I get the feeling you have no idea about what i'm talking about. well it all started when I went to the dentist and found that I need braces, So whats totally freaking me out? the whole big fact that I need to take the doctors advice and get BRACES!!! I really think I'll faint (maybe I will when I'm in operation, I really wouldn't mind) but Praise the Lord that we don't have money yet (we got a discount) so it'll probably be after christmas (after getting all the income from shows and stuff) so I still have some time. Thats where you come in to the picture if you have any such experience about this then it would be great if you could share it with me (cause I'm freaked) or if you haven't had any personal experience maybe you've heard something about it. Anyway I realize I'm gonna have to muster up a mighty big amount of courage here
So you can pray for me (it isn't really the least you can do).

Well, fancy that, you're the 2nd blogger friend I know that's getting braces, & invited advice!

Well, first of all, what does that mean, "I need braces"? Is it just b/c your teeth will get crooked otherwise, or is it something more serious, say, if u don't get braces, u might lose your teeth?

Knowing that might help me understand your situation better.

No my teeth are already crooked but when I was younger the dentist wasn't sure if I really needed them but now i guess he decided that I so need them, He also said that I'd be OK without them (at least for a while) cause my teeth aren't in a bad position meaning I can still normally chew and stuff but he said later I might develope gun problems cause of the bacteria growth in the overlap between my teeth, (He said I'd be OK for a while cause I kept really clean teeth)yeah so your the expert Take over

Waywaywaywaywaait, I never said I was an expert! No degrees in dentistry or anything, just happened to hv had braces for 3 & a half yrs (don't worry, it wasn't quite the Great Tribulation)!

That said, I think u may just be freaked b/c of fear of the unknown. Did your dentist explain to u in detail, what he wld need to do to put the braces on your teeth? If so, what did he say, & which part scared u? For instance, u mentioned the word, "operation," which to me implies going under a surgical knife, so I'm wondering, did he tell u that's what will happen, or is that what u imagine when u think of getting braces?

As far as the possibility of gum problems, I think as long as u hv good teeth-cleaning habits (rinse after eating, brush properly, floss properly, do both faithfully, etc), crooked teeth don't hv to mean gum infection.

Naw, not an expert; just had braces myself for 3 & a half yrs, & I joke that it's like the Tribulation, but really it wasn't half as bad.

Did u get a detailed explanation from your dentist as to what it wld entail? Fear of the unknown is usually the worst fear of all, & often just getting all the facts about what exactly will happen, can help u to prepare your heart, as well as put your mind at rest from imagining the worst.

Ha, 3 and a half yrs and not an expert? how many more do you need then? So since you wear braces (I mean if you still where them) then you can tell me of all your past experience. The Dentist said I'll have have to be tortured for 2 years (he didn't say or more)and that I had to go give him a visit monthly (so I can pay him, grrr) and if I was good he'd change the color of the rubber thing or what ever it is every time ( that should probably be the only thing to look forward to). and personally I'd rather not have heard all the details (like which teeth he's going to pull out and stuff, it makes me feel like never seeing him again). But anyway since you said it isn't half as bad so I'll go about thinking it's OK.

BTW No picture of yourself in your profile? Hmmm how about sending me a beautiful picture of your teeth with the braces on I want to see what you look like.

Well, it's not like I've got any degrees in dentistry -- just my own experiences, & of course no two ppl hv their teeth crooked exactly the same; each case is different, for instance, you'd only need to wear braces for 2 yrs, while I had to wear'm for considerably longer.

Getting my teeth pulled wasn't as traumatic an experience as I thought -- I think as long as your teeth & gums are healthy & they use plenty of novocaine, it's a fairly simple procedure. All the horror stories I ever heard about ppl having teeth pulled out took place when there was already some dire infection that was extremely painful in itself, so I think u should be fine.

Sorry, no digital camera or scanner, so I'm afraid u won't get any pix from that time, but rest assured that it wasn't beautiful! However, I'm very thankful to hv straight teeth now & not hv to bother w/ braces anymore! I personally feel it was worth the pain (mainly inconvenience), & am happy w/ the results!

Awww OK so it must not be that bad then. It's like relief, to know that. I think I'll be happy when its all over and in the end it'll probably be worth it all, thanks for all the insight
